UK’S FIRST FACTORY BUILT HOME GOES UNDER THE HAMMER

A completed high spec factory built home will be sold in an online auction for the first time ever in the UK next month.

Bidding will start at £99,950 for the two bedroom property which is currently in Manchester but able to be moved anywhere in the country once purchased.1 The external finish of the house can also be swapped depending on the buyer’s tastes and end location.2 Alternatively, the property can be deconstructed and stored for future use.

Created by modular specialist, Comfortable Living, and listed for auction with Lambert Smith Hampton, a national property consultancy, the 891 sq ft offsite manufactured modular house is built to exceed National Design Space Standards and is both NHBC and mortgage lender approved.3 The move to auction the completed property off, in a UK first for offsite housing, forms part of a wider campaign to raise awareness of the role that affordable modular housing can play to solve the UK’s housing crisis.

Comfortable Living CEO, Saadat Khan, says: “Housing in the UK is in crisis. More people than ever are priced out of buying a home and those who have been able to get onto the property ladder are under immense pressure with escalating debt, rising costs and monthly incomes squeezed from every angle. The impact on standard of living is unacceptable.”

“Everyone should have the opportunity to own their own home and live in a quality environment. Modular housing can play a key part in meeting the need for quality homes that are both economically viable and fast to deliver. We want to work with like minded local authorities and housing associations to build quality, affordable homes for everyone.”

The company’s approach will see it deliver homes priced at typically 20 per cent below the current market value to drive affordability and alleviate issues such negative equity. Developed during three years of extensive R&D to ensure a cost effective, fast build, without any impact on quality, the modular home up for auction comes complete with high quality fully fitted kitchen and bathrooms, highly energy efficient heating,4 carpets and blinds. It will be delivered to the successful bidder and installed, ready for move in within a week.5

Comfortable Living is inviting people who are struggling to buy their own home to register their details via their website to help inform the company’s decisions about where to build new developments, working with the appropriate local authority. Homebuyers can also find a free Land Finders Guide on the website, which is a quick guide to help with identifying and securing suitable land.

Saadat Khan says: “Comfortable Living was created to help people. We want to provide high quality homes that everyone can afford to buy. We believe that once people have the security of owning their own home it enables them to move forward in their lives with confidence and optimism. This means a brighter future for us all. We strongly believe in our beyond bricks and mortar philosophy and the power of modular housing to unlock the UK’s housing crisis.”
